Blogging with Purpose: A Viral Fundraiser for the Mothers of Haiti

I was recently invited to a fundraiser to help an organization called The Haitian Amputee Mothers Alliance (HAMA), founded to provide leading-edge prosthetic limbs to women & mothers who became amputees as a result of the January 12, 2010 earthquake.  A local mom, Sandra Geroux, recently traveled to Haiti to photograph an amazing group of women connected to this organization that is helping women who have lost limbs in the earthquake who ask for nothing more than the chance to mother their children and regain the power to live independent, … [Read more...]

Super Bowl Super Generous

My sister, Amy, is Director of Music Supervision and Licensing at Grey Advertising and this commercial is one of her latest projects.  She places music in commercials and cleared all the rights to nab this great band, Arcade Fire, for the NFL ad that aired last night during the Super Bowl. I know it's militant, I hope it won't scar her, but right now she is screaming and banging the walls to get our attention. Thankfully, our youngest is still sound asleep and not waking up … [Read more...]

Culture Mom Advocacy: Haiti: What we can all do to help

Watching the news and seeing the tragedy and devastation unfold in Haiti makes us all feel helpless, like there is nothing we can do.What can we do? We can give money to a group we trust. I've been sent a dozen requests by organizations I get emails from over the last few days, including United Jewish Appeal (which I will send my money to) and Partners in Health. We can volunteer with a local Haitian American group or other religious groups to aid Haitian families and communities in need. You can also text "HAITI" to 9099 or "Yele" to 501501 and pledge $10 … [Read more...]
