Review: Fooz Kids – A Tween’s Internet Heaven

Fooz Kids

My kids are digital kids. There’s no escaping it.  They’ve been digital since day one, since popping of my womb.  By age 3, they were both sitting at the computer, diligently learning how to use the mouse and started to become acquainted with the keyboard. Now at the ages of 6 and 8, they are terribly computer proficient, so much so that when I recently switched from a PC to Mac, they were able to work out the in’s an out’s of my new computer quicker than me. And now they can surf.  They no longer need me to type in the URL’s.   They can whip around the internet at their leisure and come across anything.  They’re pretty innocent kids, to, and I’m really not in a hurry to rush their maturity levels.  We’ve heard about Parental Controls, but we’ve yet to implement any controls on our computer.

That’s why I was interested in Fooz Kids, which I came across at BlogHer 11. It’s an application you download onto your computer that prevents spyware/adware, external ads, links and scripts. Fooz Kids is contained media – it compiles all your child’s favorite web sites and games in one place.  It’s a safe place where they are not able to surf and be pitched random pieces of advertising.  There are no pop-ups or any random outlets for kids to click on.  If you’re worried about your child’s internet usage, and have to constantly supervise him/her at the computer, this is a good option for you.  I won’t lie, we’ve only been on Fooz Kids a couple of times, but my daughter loves the fact that all her favorite games are grouped together on a dashboard – The Wizards of Waverly Place, Big Time Rush, etc.  It’s tween heaven as all her favorite shows and web sites are curated and put into one place, saving her the surfing time.  The parents also have a dashboard of their own where they can monitor and edit a child’s choices.
