Fall Events at the Prospect Park Children’s Corner

For NYC families, the Prospect Park Children’s Corner is a unique destination for history, exploration, learning and fun. The Children’s Corner is conveniently located at the Willink Entrance to Prospect Park in the Heart of Brooklyn. Thursdays-Sundays this fall, this kid-centric sanctuary will host new exhibits and animals to visit; plus through October 31st, with your admission to the Prospect Park Zoo, your admission to Prospect Park Zoo,  receive a coupon for 50¢ off the price of a ride on the Carousel (normally $2).

On your visit, meet the new baby baboons at Prospect Park Zoo – the first Hamadryas baboons born to the Zoo in six years. The Zoo is encouraging visitors to help name the babies on their website through September 21; names will be announced on September 24. Their exhibit is located in the Zoo’s Animal Lifestyles Building along with tamarin monkeys, piranhas, and Pallas’s cats. The infants are on exhibit with their family from 10am-2pm daily until November 1st.

Zoo admission through October 31st earns visitors a free coupon for 50¢ off the price of a ride at the Prospect Park Carousel, right next door in the Children’s Corner. Take a spin on one of 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer, or a dragon-pulled chariot, accompanied by joyous organ music. Normally priced at $2.00 per ride, books of 5 tickets are also available for $9.00 at the Carousel.

Then take a trip back in history at nearby Lefferts Historic House, which interprets the history of Brooklyn’s environment from pre-Colonial times until the present. The newly opened long-term exhibit “The Fabric of Life” teaches visitors how fabrics were made and used in this area in 1800. Learn how flax and fleece from the farm were turned into the basic materials for making clothes. Touch the handmade fibers and fabrics in use two centuries ago!

The Children’s Corner is accessible via the B, Q and S (Franklin Avenue Shuttle) trains to Prospect Park or the B41, B16 or B43 bus (walk north from the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard). Lefferts Historic House and the Prospect Park Carousel are open Thursday-Sunday through October. Visit www.prospectpark.org for hours and information, including information on birthday party packages, available for groups of up to 15 people. Prospect Park Zoo is open 365 days a year.
