Cause Marketing 101: Personal Satisfaction, Business Results and a Better World

Screen Shot 2013-01-11 at 6.29.43 PM

This morning I had the pleasure of hearing from author David Hessekiel, author of Good Works! Marketing and Corporate Initiatives that Build a Better World...and the Bottom Line.  I’m always looking for ways to unlock the potential of new media and technology to make the world a better place, and how to translate that potential into action and he shared some great tactics for small companies.  He calls it strategic philanthropy  - when a company targets charitable efforts to help society and a business through not just cash contributions, but Read More

2013 Social Media Trends

Screen Shot 2013-01-10 at 1.11.50 PM

Wondering how the social media landscape may change in 2013?  Could things possibly move any faster than they did in 2012? Last night I went to a very interesting lecture at the Digital Arts Experience (DAE) in White Plains. Stephanie Schwab of Crackerjack Marketing, Rhonda Hurwitz, Social Media Consultant and Ellen Gerstein, VP Marketing at Grand Central Publishing were the speakers, I was the moderator.  I know each panelist very well and knew I was in for an informative evening and want to share some of my findings. First I asked them what Read More

Evolving and Entering 2013

2012/2013

I'm determined to reflect and write an account of 2012, as I do every year. It helps to think about my achievements, as I am ending the year on a bit of a low.  I wasn't sure why I feel this way around this time of year until I saw this tweet from one of my favorite writers and actresses, Lena Duham, and realized I'm not the only one: Then I realized that if she, the queen of everything creative and successful, can feel this way, I'm not a total loser.  I have so much to look forward to in 2013 and I need to focus on the good in my life.  I'm at a Read More

Review (Better Late Than Never): The Middlesteins by Jami Attenberg

the middle steins

I feel like a ninny.  Two months ago I read one of the best books I've read in years and I neglected to write about it.  I've thought about the review several times but got distracted, I suppose. However, the book has not left my mind.  It was the kind of relatable read that left a long-lasting impression on me. Then today I came across this fantastic review in the New York Times, and not only was I reminded that I missed an opportunity to promote something I genuinely loved, but I'm also thrilled for its author, Jami Attenberg.  I've actually tweeted Read More

My Debut on Women and Hollywood

women and hollywood

One of my resolutions in 2012 was to go beyond the mom blogosphere and write for a publication I felt was in line with who I am.  That particular publication is Women & Hollywood, a featured blog on IndieWire. It's a site I have been reading since the start of the Internet. I get many opportunities to meet women involved with film and television, and the editorial possibilities are real. Women, film, television - these are topics of utmost importance to me and the subjects of which I know most about in life. I met the site's editor at BlogHer back Read More

Time to Rebrand

Screen Shot 2012-11-26 at 10.35.56 PM

When I started to conceptualize this blog in late 2009, I spent months agonizing over everything.  The URL, the logo, the content, my writing.  I was not technical in the slightest.  I remember starting out on Blogger.com and writing my first post.   I remember thinking, what do I have to say?  I wanted to start a travel blog, but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to travel enough.  And then this came out, my first blog, titled "No...Wire...Hangerrrs!" Joan Crawford said it in the classic film “Mommy Dearest”. We never forgot it. Such a great line. Read More

This Crazy Kind, Wonderful Community (Social Media)

Screen Shot 2012-11-07 at 10.42.26 PM

The last two weeks have been unlike any other I have ever experienced. Hurricane Sandy hit New York and in the course of a day, many lives were destroyed.  Homes were swept up, lifetime belongings were ruined, memories were deleted, and lives were changed.  For nine days, my family lived without power.  At first, we were like campers, scrambling for a hot drink, gathering by the fire, playing games and   taking one day at a time as the weather worsened.  In the back of my mind the whole time was the people who's lives were impacted far worse than me and Read More

Thinking about 2020 and Making a Move

out think inc

About a month ago, an email landed in my inbox from a very familiar, friendly voice.  It was from Andrea Sheehan, an old friend and former colleague.  She had found me on Linked In and was wondering what I was up to. The timing could not have been better.  I was on the cusp of leaving my position and was looking for a new opportunity.  Andrea went on to tell me about a new company she was forming and the excitement in her voice was as transparent and honest as I'd ever heard. Andrea is a mom of 4  (I don't know how she does it).  She's also a Read More

#Giving Tuesday: A National Day of Giving Around the Annual Holiday Shopping Season

Giving Tuesday

I'm always looking for a way to give back easily and effortlessly.  Making a difference; that's what life is about. As I heard Hillary Clinton say recently at the 2012 Social Good Summit, “We’re living in a time where anyone can be a diplomat.  All you have to do is hit send." It's never been this easy to make a difference and change lives.  With a simple click! And that is why the campaign I'm about to describe is so amazing. It was at this conference that #GivingTuesday launched. The 2012 Social Good Summit was a dynamic, worldwide Read More
