Spend Mother’s Day at FIG & OLIVE Meatpacking (+ Review)

mothersdayfigandolive

In honor of Mother's Day, FIG & OLIVE Meatpacking in New York City is offering a Mother's Day special on Sunday, May 10th.  My mom and I were recently invited to sample the menu in lieu of the special and  I'm not lying when I say that our mouths were literally salivating at every bite. I had been to the FIG & OLIVE in Westchester near my home but it was my first time at the Meat Packing location. The restaurant exudes glimmers of the Mediterranean, from the spacious, modern, chic decor from the plants on the wall to wicker armchairs, to the Read More

Guest Post: A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream at The New Acting Company

MidsummerNights

Liat Ginsberg is a mother and a former Journalist for the Israeli newspaper Maariv. She taught at the Film and Media department at Hunter College. When the pamphlet of The New Acting Company advertised that the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream is appropriate for kids age 5 and up, I doubted it. I told myself , “How could a kid understand a language from 1594”? But I decided to take the risk with my 5 year old twins. I already imagined that they are going to embarrass me and I’ll have to leave the theatre in the middle of the play. To my amazement, they Read More

My Rejuvenating Trip to Kauai

kauai

Do you ever stop to think about the life you've been given? The legacy that has been passed onto you? Do you ever think about the fact that you were blessed with beauty and you can find this beauty in every moment, no matter where you look? On my recent rejuvenating trip to Kaua'i, where I traveled for the first time, I came into contact with a woman named Puna Kalama Dawson, Hawaiian Cultural Guide to Wellness at The St. Regis Princeville Resort. She reminded me to remember: How important it is to take the time to appreciate what is directly in Read More

Week 5: Middle-Aged Personal Training at Encore Fitness

encorefitness

Last time I wrote I was disappointed in my progress with my work-outs, as I gained a bit of weight (not the direction I was looking for) but I knew my lack of moving upward was my own fault. I had a million excuses in that post - lack of time, excessive matzo eating (for real!), falling off my routine. My trainer gave me simple tips, all of which I outlined in my post. I was determined to take the plunge and follow his commands tracking my food, doing more cardio, trying different forms of exercise and more. You can read my laundry list here. And Read More

Chasing Holocaust Ghosts in Paper Love by Sarah Wildman

paperlove

Is it possible to chase ghosts? One woman would say that it is. It all started with just one letter. After consulting with her grandmother about it, she found out that the woman in the photographs had been her grandfather's "true love". With knowledge of his escape from Vienna during the Holocaust, Wildman wanted to know more about her and started to chase her ghost. No longer able to ask him, as he had passed away prior to her discovery, she would have to venture into the unknown, a chapter not discusssed much by her family. Armed with a a cache Read More

Where You’ll Find Me

where you'll find me

I've been quiet on the blog because I'm currently on a wellness trip in Kauai. Yes, I mean Hawaii. Sometimes these trips come at exactly the right time and I feel very privileged to be on assignment here. I have had several articles featured on the web recently and wanted to share a few of the links. Travel YES, You Can See Disney on the Cheap - Here's How (Yahoo Travel) America's Best Family-Friendly Resorts (Huffington Post) Unusual Family-Friendly Attractions in Kissimmee (MiniTime) A Weekend of Skiing and Maple Sugaring in Read More

Week 4: Middle-Aged Personal Training at Encore Fitness

defeat

"Are you sure you want to know?" These seven words started off my forth training session at Encore Fitness NY this week. After a two-week hiatus, imposed upon me by the kids' spring break and then Passover, I had finally been able to return to my regular routine and to my weekly sessions with Robert. I was eager to get back on track. While I had been off schedule over the two week period, I had attempted to engage myself in deeper work-out sessions. I started taking short runs, planking when I had time during the day, and really pushing myself at the Read More

“Coming Out” Soon: Grace and Frankie on Netflix

gracieandfrankie

The trailer for Grace and Frankie, a new Netflix original program debuting on May 8th, was released today. I watched it and can't wait to see the 13. I have a feeling this binge will be fast and furious and over in a flash. When I love a show (like Orange is the New Black, like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), I just can't stop. Not only do you have Jane Fonda, who plays Grace, and Lily Tomlin, who plays Frankie - I know, I could stop there and you'd be happy with these two acting goddesses- but now I find you have Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, who Read More

Review: The Revival of Gigi on Broadway

gigi on broadway

When I invited my mom to attend a press viewing of the revival of Gigi on Broadway, she was ecstatic, claiming it's one of the most memorable shows she ever saw as a teenager in the 1950s. She remembered the songs and story very clearly from the show, as well as the film. I'm also in that celebrated category of remembering the story. While spending time in Paris in my 20s, I went to see the film again at a small repertory cinema and embraced the performances of Leslie Caron, Louis Jourdan, Maurice Chevalier, and Hermione Gingold. This was the first time Read More

Announcing Finding Neverland and a Giveaway

findingneverland

If you're a Peter Pan, Glee and Frasier fan like me, you're surely excited about the upcoming FINDING NEVERLAND on Broadway. Starring Matthew Morrison and Kelsey Grammer, FINDING NEVERLAND (produced by the folks at the Weinstein Company) follows the story of author J.M. Barrie and his relationship with the family of widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, who eventually became Barrie's inspiration to write Peter Pan. The musical explores the power of imagination to open up new worlds, and the pressures put upon those worlds by the inevitability of growing up. Read More
