A New Theater Adventure: ALMOST HOME

I’ve written about how life-changing and rewarding the Listen to Your Mother experience was for me.  I’ve written about it again and again and again. I produced three of the annual NYC show, had life-altering experiences and made life-long friends. I always had a dream to work in theater, only I never realized it until after turning 40.  And now I’ve done it in small amounts and doing it makes me feel powerful, like I can do anything, even fly. I had a real off-Broadway experience almost two years ago, when my amazing friends, Amy Wilson and Julie Kramer, gave me the opportunity to join them on their production of Rona Jaffe’s The Best of Everything.

It was through that show that I met Leah Michaelos, General Manager of The Directors Company, and when she asked me to lend a Marketing/Social Media hand to her next show, ALMOST HOME by the prolific and legendary Walter Anderson, I jumped. Today they announced casting and it couldn’t be more dreamy: Joe Lisi (Take Me Out), James McCaffrey (Gross Points), Jonny Orsini (The Nance), Brenda Pressley (The Lyons) and Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba (Contact and Bullets Over Broadway).

Here’s what the play is about: In the turbulent sixties, a young Marine returns home to the Bronx, shaken but hopeful for the future. Met by a mother fighting to keep the family going and a father down on his luck, Johnny finds himself caught between his parents’ dreams for his future and a police captain with plans of his own. Walter Anderson’s compelling new drama about the wars fought at home asks: whose dreams must be sacrificed to protect the ones we love?

I couldn’t ask to work with a better group of people.
