Edible Manhattan: The Spotted Pig

In the heart of the West Village at 314 West 11th Street lies one of favorite restaurants, the Spotted Pig.  It’s called a gastro pub for its unique flavors and tastes.  It looks like an average bar but the food is far from average.

On any given night, you’ll have to wait in line for a table.  They have one bar upstairs and one downstairs that are great for hanging out and having a few drinks.  You can eat the bar if you like, but we like getting a table for the complete experience.  We love their hamburgers served with Roquefort cheese.  Also offered on the menu: steak-and-kidney-pie norm with char-grilled calf’s liver with onions, crispy pancetta and argula and radish salad with basil and parmesan.

The Spotted Pig’s specialties include the famous burger, shoestring fries, and the yummy gnudi, which we always get and share.  Gnudi is a cheese dumpling served in brown butter that melts in your mouth.  My friend was excited by all the pig paraphernalia displayed all over the restaurant.

Great vibe, great food.  Well worth the wait, but you have to be able to hang out for a few hours on any given night.
