My 2016 Pop Culture Resolutions

pop culture 2016

2015 was such a good year for pop culture. From books to TV shows to movies, it was just very satisfying. Streaming video and binging kind of took over my life, as I fell in love with shows like Grace & Frankie on Netflix, Casual on Hulu and Transparent on Amazon. Over on the networks, shows that I became addicted to were Jane the Virgin and Crazy-Ex Girlfriend, which I of course binged on Hulu and rarely watched live. Books like The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, Paper Love by Sarah Wildman and Love Her, Love Her Not: The Hillary Paradox by Joanne Read More

Keeping Global Promises to Mothers and Children

hollyrosenfink

I can't believe that I had my first daughter 10-1/2 years ago.  It feels like yesterday, and for some reason, the images are more vivid than when I had my second child a few years later. It was an induced pregnancy, so we went in to the hospital rather leisurely on a week night.  I laid on a table and was given medication to send my soon-to-be child a signal that it was time to come into the world.  After nine months of carrying her around in my belly and readying the house and my life to include a new child, my husband and I were more than ready to Read More

A Tour of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

shakespearetheater

On our recent trip to London while exploring the city with the kids, I came to a realization that we were minutes from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and that in all the many times I've visited, I've never been. A Shakespeare fan since high school, I really wanted to visit the home of all his early works. One caveat: my kids were with me.  Would they make it through the 45 minute tour? And I had my niece. It would be a daring feat, but I was determined to try. A bit of history about the theatre: It was up and running in 1599 and Shakespeare started to have Read More

An Irish Family Vacation, Part 2

Ireland

Our Ireland family vacation continued with a ride from Adare to Dingle, which was a certified adventure, driving down curvy, rugged roads past sheep and cows. Dingle neighbors the Ring of Kerry, where we were heading next to stay with friends. We were driving to the west coast of Ireland, and I had no idea that I was about to experience such raw, rugged beauty. In Dingle, the sea was so blue, the grass so green.  As we made our way, driving onto the peninsula and into the small town filled with painted shops and pubs, a harbor with sailing boats and a Read More

An Organized MOMent

Organization

As a mom who works both in the office and at home, I have organization issues.  First of all, I have multiple clients and multiple projects at the same time and tend to jump from one project to another.  I write articles, have deadlines, have major projects going at the same time.  I have boxes of business cards that need to be filed with data that needs to be dumped onto spreadsheets, one of my biggest grievances. Oh, and did I mention the kids?  They rank into the equation, too.  Kids ages 7 & 8 have a lot going on and a lot to keep track of, Read More

Bucket List: Woody Allen – Live at Cafe Carlyle

If you haven't already figured it out from reading my many blogs about Woody Allen, I'm a huge fan.  I've written about his movies, his plays and his impact on my life and move to NYC from Atlanta, GA.  But he means so much more to me than I can write here on this blog and after many years of saying how much I want to see him in real life at the Cafe Carlyle where he plays clarinet regularly with his band, my husband finally listened and agreed that it was the perfect Valentine's Day gift for me this year. And indeed it was.  We got dressed up, a Read More

Tips for Taking Your Kids Abroad

Traveling with Kids

Every year when I return from an international trip with kids, I feel charged up.  I love showing them faraway places.  To be able to say we're in a place with thousands of years of history is energizing.  To be able to show them castles, cathedrals and synagogues from the 19th century is quite a thrill for me.  My husband and refuse to give up our love for travel because we have kids.  Rather we embrace the fact that we do and take them to far away places whole- heartedly. I jotted down a quick few notes on my recent trip, to remind myself and you to Read More

Kid Culture: The Museum of Moving Images

I'm a movie bufff. I've always been. My mother was the type of mom who dragged us to a Gene Kelly double feature with "Singin in the Rain" and "On the Town." A film minor in college, I've always been obsessed with film, old and new. I want some of this obsession to rub off on my kids.  After having visited the museum two years ago, I already knew what to expect but had never been with kids in mind.So today, on day #1 of spring break, we ventured to the Museum of Moving Images (35th Avenue at 36th Street) in Astoria. I've been a big fan of Read More
