Fela! Hits Toronto

Fela TorontoFor all my Canadian friends out there, I have exciting news. FELA! is playing at Toronto’s Canon Theatre from October 25 to November 6.  Mirvish Productions brings the production to Canada, where the cast will include members from the original Broadway production in New York City as well as the London cast.

Produced by Jay-Z and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith, FELA! is based on the true story of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti’s struggles against his corrupt and oppressive government and his love and passion for music. Throughout his life, Kuti clashed with the Nigerian military for his protest songs, formed his own political party to fight corruption, was falsely imprisoned and pioneered the Afrobeat movement.

Check out this behind the scenes video of the show’s Broadway run and the importance of telling Fela Kuti’s story:

For discount seats ($25 mezzanine, $50 orchestra), please use code FELA50 when ordering.  Call 416-872-1212 or 800-461-333 or visit mirvish.com.  These tickets are valid for select performances only: October 26th-November 3rd (8pm) excluding October 31st and matinee performances on October 29th, 30th and November 2nd.

Disclosure: I was not compensated to write this.  This is a show I would recommend to my friends a million times over.
