A Toyota Adventure to Hilton Short Hills to see Listen to Your Mother

hiltoncollage

Last weekend my family and I ventured to New Jersey for a bit of an adventure. I was given a Toyota 4Runner to test out for our journey and was eager to set out on our family road trip. We had big plans: a weekend stay at Hilton Short Hills and a trip to see the New Jersey production of Listen to Your Mother, a show I have had much to do with since its inception. I hadn't known where the producing road would take me then and I certainly didn't know where the weekend's traveling roads would take us, but I was looking forward to finding out. The Toyota Read More

A (Solo) Visit to Grand Residences Riviera Cancun

grandresidencesview

Last week my travels took me to Mexico for a stay at Grand Residences Riviera Cancun, a five-star, Leading Hotel of the World property. Located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, just 30 minutes from the Cancun airport, Grand Residences in the newest addition to the Royal Resorts family. While I was there, I indulged in all the hotel has to offer - from their complimentary sunset cruise to an aqua-aerobics class to a spa treatment to a tea tasting session with a professional sommelier to a bike ride into Puerto Morales, a nearby fishing village. The Read More

Preparing for a Trip to Iceland with Ask Guðmundur

promoteiceland

I've written about travel to Iceland many times, over on MiniTime where I gave 10 reasons to take the kids and Family Vacation Critic where I talked about Icelandair's amazing stopover program, and, of course, here on The Culture Mom. I've never gotten the trip out of my mind. It was such a raw, exotic, memorable experience and I've been itching to go back. So, when I was invited by the folks at Inspired by Iceland, I jumped at the opportunity. You'll be reading about my adventures soon, many of which I will write about here and elsewhere. In Read More

Spend Mother’s Day at FIG & OLIVE Meatpacking (+ Review)

mothersdayfigandolive

In honor of Mother's Day, FIG & OLIVE Meatpacking in New York City is offering a Mother's Day special on Sunday, May 10th.  My mom and I were recently invited to sample the menu in lieu of the special and  I'm not lying when I say that our mouths were literally salivating at every bite. I had been to the FIG & OLIVE in Westchester near my home but it was my first time at the Meat Packing location. The restaurant exudes glimmers of the Mediterranean, from the spacious, modern, chic decor from the plants on the wall to wicker armchairs, to the Read More

My Rejuvenating Trip to Kauai

kauai

Do you ever stop to think about the life you've been given? The legacy that has been passed onto you? Do you ever think about the fact that you were blessed with beauty and you can find this beauty in every moment, no matter where you look? On my recent rejuvenating trip to Kaua'i, where I traveled for the first time, I came into contact with a woman named Puna Kalama Dawson, Hawaiian Cultural Guide to Wellness at The St. Regis Princeville Resort. She reminded me to remember: How important it is to take the time to appreciate what is directly in Read More

Our NYC Staycation

PicMonkey Collage - NYC

This past spring break was an interesting one. After living in and near NYC for a lot of years, I decided it was time for my kids to have a NYC staycation. We stayed in hotels, went to museums on 42nd Street like Madame Tussaud's, took a bus tour, ate in Chinatown and Korea Town, went to the top of the Empire State Building, visited the Statue of Liberty and toured Ellis Island, went to the 9/11 Memorial, explored the orchids at the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx and had pizza on Arthur Avenue, indulged in cupcakes at Carlos Bakery, strolled through Read More

On Saying “No”: Disney Social Media Moms Conference

disney

I've been blogging for five years now and every year I've quietly hoped to be invited to a blogging conference called Disney Social Media Moms. It's a very big deal in the social media community, or seems to be. Besides getting an opportunity to delve into the world of social media with other women for a weekend, you get to bring your family along to experience Walt Disney World in a very magical way with Disney as host. When I didn't make the cut the first year, I thought I'd make it eventually. But when I didn't make the cut the next year, I began to Read More

WICKED at The Westin New York at Times Square

wickedelevator

This past weekend was a special one for my tween and I as we stayed over night in NYC in Times Square for the first time. Sure, we've stayed over night in the city before but not right in the heart of Broadway. And for two culture vultures, that meant everything. We were invited by The Westin at Times Square to check out the WICKED Night Out, an exclusive WICKED-themed hotel package.  My daughter first saw the show at age 6 and again at age 10. As a tween, the show holds special memories for her and I knew the hotel would have an appreciative visitor. Read More

Review: Catch Me! (Attrape-moi) at The New Victory Theater

flipfabrique

A Saturday afternoon spent at the New Victory Theater is the perfect one for my kids and I, and this past Saturday was no exception. My daughter and I went to see the extremely creative and utterly wonderful CATCH ME! (Attrape-moi), featuring the six young talents of Flip FabriQue, an up-and-coming troupe from Quebec City, Canada, whose members have performed with Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, 7 Fingers and more. We ventured to a 12pm show which we found full of other families with (much younger) children than my tween. But after being an avid Read More
