My Netflix Suggestions

netflix

Whether you're snowed in this weekend or are looking for good viewing suggestions for yourselves (not for kids, have I mentioned that?), Netflix is awesome for just popping in to find something from your past or something you've never seen but should have. Before you peruse my list, bear in mind I'm a sucker for old movies, foreign films,  rom coms, independents and comedies/dramas. I also like to catch up on the films made by or with many of the beloved actors who are no longer with us. As I sit here snowed in today, I've brainstormed this down and dirty Read More

My 2016 Pop Culture Resolutions

pop culture 2016

2015 was such a good year for pop culture. From books to TV shows to movies, it was just very satisfying. Streaming video and binging kind of took over my life, as I fell in love with shows like Grace & Frankie on Netflix, Casual on Hulu and Transparent on Amazon. Over on the networks, shows that I became addicted to were Jane the Virgin and Crazy-Ex Girlfriend, which I of course binged on Hulu and rarely watched live. Books like The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, Paper Love by Sarah Wildman and Love Her, Love Her Not: The Hillary Paradox by Joanne Read More

Gracing the Set of Netflix’s Grace And Frankie

graceandfrankie

Grace and Frankie is a show about friendship. It's a show about women. It's about aging. It's a show about life changes that hit you when you least expect them. It's about motherhood and what it's like later in life when the kids venture out on their own. It's about love - when it breaks and how one picks up the pieces. It deals with some very tough issues in a very realistic way. It's a show I've binge watched three times. It's also a show with legends (Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen). Season one featured Read More

Dust Off Your Shelfies with Netflix

honorablewoman

While you spent last year shuffling the kids to hockey games, helping solve their quadratic equations and giving the little ones their baths, you probably missed episodes – if not full seasons – of some great shows. Did Olivia kick Fitz to the curb on Scandal? Who’s rocking the break room on Grey’s Anatomy? Just how long is Rick’s beard now on The Walking Dead? With full-blown fall premiere season upon us, now’s the time to grab your boo and glass of wine (or just grab the wine!) and dust off your shelfies. What’s a shelfie you ask? We all have them – Read More

Something to Get Excited About: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt #StreamTeam

kimmyschmidt

I've written about Netflix often here on ye olde blog. I've written about my binge watching habits, getting my Indie film fix, what I watch with my tween and my deep, fervent love for Orange is the New Black. In a piece on The Broad Side, I wrote that Netflix is championing women's voices: With a staff full of female executives starting from the top down, Netflix is producing original programs that truly are telling important stories about women and raising the bar like no other network to date. Now I'm excited about another one of their Read More

What My Tween Watched on Netflix in 2014

netflix

My daughter turned 11 this year and her TV viewing habits and desires certainly changed. As a matter of fact, they started catching up to what I like to watch and her viewing patterns became my viewing patterns. What she watched, I watched. We must have binged several shows for hours and hours, not only on the TV but on the iPad and computer. Netflix changed the landscape of television for all of us and gave us the ability to watch whatever we want, whenever we want. My daughter and I curled up many the night in my bed with the iPad and binged several Read More

What I Love About Orange is the New Black, Season 2

orange is the new black season 2

I confess. I binged the entire second season of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK in two days. Now I'm rewinding and going back to season one to take both seasons all in again. I can't really wait a year, so I'm introducing my husband to a show I have fallen in love with. I really wish I had savored every episode and spread it out during the course of a few weeks. As soon as it was over, I went into withdrawal mode. I missed the characters I had become so attached to over the course of two days and dreaded the fact that I'd have to wait a whole year to find out Read More
