Any movie starring Bill Murray and Laura Linney has GREAT written all over it. I’m looking forward to seeing Hyde Park On Hudson.  That’s why I’m thrilled to be giving away a night for one reader to see it and have a night at the movies.

Together they;re starring in a historical tale that uniquely explores the all-too-human side of one of history’s iconic leaders, FDR. Blending literate wit and drama, Hyde Park on Hudson is directed by Roger Michell from a screenplay by Richard Nelson.

In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (played by Murrary) readies to host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson, in upstate New York – marking the first-ever visit of a reigning British monarch to America. As Britain faces imminent war with Germany, the royals are desperately looking to FDR for U.S. support.

But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR’s domestic establishment, as his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams), mother Sara (Elizabeth Wilson), and secretary Missy (Elizabeth Marvel) will all play a part in making the royal weekend an unforgettable one.

Seen through the eyes of Daisy (played by Linney), Franklin’s neighbor and intimate, the weekend will produce not only a special relationship between two great nations, but, for Daisy – and through her, for us all – a deeper understanding of the mysteries of love and friendship.

Sound like the next movie on your list?

I recently wrote about my visit to the American Museum of Natural History and my glimpse into the Frogs: A Chorus of Colors Exhibit.  The museum is one of our favorite days out in the city.  We can spend hours there.

A pioneer in modern frog research, the American Museum of Natural History has one of the largest frog collections in the world. AMNH expeditions to remote mountaintops, as well as surveys of local wetlands, continue to uncover new populations and species—but also reveal environmental changes that threaten frogs’ existence. Many efforts are underway to reverse this downward trend globally and in our own backyards. As just one example, all of the live frogs displayed in this exhibition have been captive-bred, to protect their populations in the wild.

It’s an amazing exhibit and it runs until January 8th, 2012.

Today one of you will receive one family of FOUR tickets to the Frogs exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History! While you’re at the museum, you can check out the rest of the museum with your kids – The World’s Largest Dinosaurs, Tornado Alley, Highway of an Empire: The Great Inca Road and all the permanent exhibits that are there all year long.

All you have to do to win is leave a comment below.  Please be sure to leave an email address or Twitter handle IN YOUR RESPONSE below (this is important!)

Winners will be chosen on Friday, September 30th at noon.  The winner will have 24 hours to accept the prize or it will go to the runner-up.

Giveaway: Spend an Evening Laughing at “The Judy Show: My Life as a Sitcom” /giveaway-spend-evening-laughing-the-judy-show/ /giveaway-spend-evening-laughing-the-judy-show/#comments Sat, 18 Jun 2011 10:35:02 +0000 CultureMom /?p=2262 Judy Gold

Emmy-winning actress and comic Judy Gold returns to the New York stage June 30 in a brand-new show entitled The Judy Show: My Life as a Sitcom. Building on the success of her show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, funny-woman Judy Gold returns to the stage in this hilarious look at her life through the lens of the classic sitcoms of her youth. With multimedia, original music, laughter and love, Judy shows us how she balances family and ambition with a little help from our favorite 70s, 80s and 90s TV shows.

She is really hilarious.  I saw her last year in Love, Loss and What I Wore and she cracked me up.  She is both colorful and delightful and definitely biting.  As a Jewish mom and a woman, she really knows how to push my buttons.  Make sure you watch the video at the end of this post.  She’s a Jewish Gay Mom, according to Liz Gumbiner at Mom 101, who just filmed a video with her on iVillage.

Gold is the host of HBO’s “At the Multiplex with Judy Gold” and also hosted Comedy Central’s “100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time,” and the GLAAD Media Awards which aired on LOGO and VH1. The winner of two Emmy Awards for writing and producing “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” Gold was nominated twice for The American Comedy Awards’ Funniest Female Stand-Up. Gold has co-hosted “The View.” Her TV specials include a half-hour comedy special for LOGO, “Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold,” Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd Stand Up,” and her own HBO half-hour special for which she received a Cable ACE Award. Featured in the HBO documentary “All Aboard,” she was also seen in the film “The Aristocrats.”
