Kid Culture: The Museum of Moving Images

I'm a movie bufff. I've always been. My mother was the type of mom who dragged us to a Gene Kelly double feature with "Singin in the Rain" and "On the Town." A film minor in college, I've always been obsessed with film, old and new. I want some of this obsession to rub off on my kids.  After having visited the museum two years ago, I already knew what to expect but had never been with kids in mind.So today, on day #1 of spring break, we ventured to the Museum of Moving Images (35th Avenue at 36th Street) in Astoria. I've been a big fan of Read More

Kid Culture: The Jewish Museum Presents Curious George Saves the Day and Giveaway for Tickets to Exhibit

My 5 year-old son adores Curious George.  That could even be an under-statement.  We read his books nightly, watch the show daily and listen to the film soundtrack regularly. The books about Curious George resonate with my son and millions of children around the world and promote a sense of exploration like no other.Fortunately, for me, I got to preview a new exhibit at the Jewish Museum today called Curious George Saves the Day: The Art of Margaret and H.A. Rey that will run from March 14th to August 1st.  From now on, I will read the Read More

Highlights of our trip to L.A. and, oh, the rain

I never thought it would rain so much during our trip to Los Angeles. Even our friends who live there couldn't believe the amount of rain that hit last week. It was a sog fest. Nonetheless, we all had a great time, out of our usual routine and environment. I had been to L.A. loads of times for work and to visit my friend and sister back in the days of no kids, so I know the city pretty well. We stayed at a superb hotel called the Erwin in Venice Beach. Overlooking the boardwalk and sea, it's a retro hotel that's part art gallery, part beach Read More
