A Star is Born

Picking out clothes for my daughter isn’t as easy as it used to be when she was younger.  I used to go shopping and she loved everything I brought home.  Usually, I just picked up any item that was pink or purple, and it was an instant hit. Unfortunately, we no longer always see eye to eye.  I bought her home a pair of shoes last week that she nix’ed, and I can tell that her fashion sense is fast forwarding itself past my own, and she now looks to some of her friends and heroes, like Selena Gomez, for fashion advice and approval.  It’s sad but true. Fashion has never been one of my strengths.  I know in my heart that she’ll be taller than me in the near future (half a foot), have long, blonde hair (as opposed to my kinky brown curls) and dress better than I do.  It’s just a fact.

At BlogHer, I was hanging out in the Mom Select Swag Suite working at my company, Ruckus Media’s, table showing off our fabulous apps for kids, when I spotted a brand at another table with sparkling pink and jewels and everything my 8 year-old daughter goes for.  So, I went over to introduce myself as a participating sponsor, and picked up information about the brand.   I understood that the brand was about creativity, fashion and parent approval, but the concept didn’t really register until I got home and summoned my daughter to the computer.

I’m so glad I met Fashion Playtes.  Here’s a brand that lets a girl use her own fashion sense and style to create her own clothes.  It’s a step by step process on their web site, and it couldn’t be more user-friendly…for both of us.   They offer all kinds of age-appropriate styles (for ages 5-12) to choose from: dresses, t-shirts, hoodies, and lots more.   After you choose the type of item she wants to make, then she chooses its color, pattern and she can add rhinestones, ribbons, appliques and her own label with her name on it.  We had a lot of fun making a dress for my daughter, here’s how it turned out:

Fashion Playtes

I have to admit, my daughter looks amazing in this dress, like a star!  I definitely got a jump start on my back-to-school shopping and I think I even get her style better than I did before.  Take a look.

Disclosure: I received a discount on a Fashion Playtes item, but I was not compensated to write this review and all opinions are my own.

What a cool idea! I’ve been having a hard time school shopping with my almost-11 year old about school shopping. I have a feeling we’ll see eye-to-eye on cute clothes on this site!
