How I’ll Be Spending Mother’s Day: At the Alamo Drafthouse (+ Giveaway)

alamomothersday

One of my favorite experiences these days is seeing movies at the Alamo Drafthouse. I actually had my first visit to an Alamo (yes, it’s a chain) in Austin, Texas last year, and I was instantly hooked. It’s a theater for the true movie buff, catering to those of us who truly love movies. The seats are plush and the menu (yes, you can order food) is really geared toward making it a complete film experience. It’s the best of both worlds — a full restaurant menu of food, drinks, and refills — and great movies. From classic to foreign to the best of what’s out now, there’s always a great choice.

As a matter of fact, I love the experience so much that I recently took a newly arrived refugee family from Afghanistan to the Alamo. The four little boys had never seen a movie in a cinema before. As they munched on popcorn and drank apple juice, their eyes literally popped out of their heads when the movie came on. As they leaned forward to absorb the movie (it was “Black Panther”), I felt as though I was also a child seeing my own first movie. It was memorable, to say the least.

So, you can only guess where I’ll be spending Mother’s Day this year. Yes, at the Alamo!  Not only that but I have partnered up with them to give away a $50 gift card for you and your mom to go see a special Mothers Day brunch screening with movie-inspired brunch choices. On May 13, Alamo theaters will be hosting fun-filled Mother’s Day brunch screenings of Breakfast at Tiffany’sThe Sound of Music, and Mrs. Doubtfire, complete with a scrumptious meal served right to your seat.

Right now, I’m on the fence about what to see. They are all such great films, and the food combinations sound amazing. At “Mrs. Doubtfire,” you’ll enjoy three of delicious courses of eats inspired by the antics on screen — birthday party cinnamon roll, Euphegenia’s hearty Scottish breakfast, and a whipped cream-drenched “Hellooo” cake to top things off. “The Sound of Music” is a cinematic trip through Salzburg. And “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is ooh, la la sheer decadence, taking me back down memory lane with Audrey Hepburn.
