The New York Botanical Garden’s annual Holiday Train Show has become a special and memorable experience for all of us. When our kids were babies, their eyes popped out at all the moving trains buzzing around the room. As toddlers, they started to chase the trains and watch the lights flashing around the room. Now that they’re officially tweens, they’ll surely look at it through a new lens, more curious about the landmarks represented and how they were made.
The experience is a one and only. You and your kids will marvel at the charming model trains and New York City landmark replicas, stroll the spectacular grounds, decorate (and eat!) gingersnaps, break for lunch and hot chocolate, and explore other parts of the garden while you’re there.
Within the enchanting setting of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, model trains zip over bridges and past replicas of New York landmarks made of plant parts such as nuts, bark, and leaves. Show favorites include the original Yankee Stadium, Statue of Liberty, and Brooklyn Bridge.
This holiday season, The New York Botanical Garden is thrilled to celebrate their 23rd annual Holiday Train Show from November 15th-January 19th. The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory plays host to a city in miniature, featuring more than 150 New York landmarks re-created to scale with nuts, bark, leaves, and other plant parts. Step into this annual New York tradition and explore 250 acres of crisp winter landscapes during tours of the Garden’s many collections, experience festive evening events, and take care of your holiday shopping list.

My girls ages 6 & 9 have never been to the train show. They are fascinated in general with building things with any materials they can get their hands on and I know would absolutely LOVE seeing the train show. We have gone to the free train show in the Transit Museum located in Grand Central however from what I hear, it doesn’t hold a candle to the Botanical Gardens show. My 8 year old son loves the train show. He’s gone with his school and last year we all went and had the best time. Whether we win or not, we will make it point to return this year!
We’ve only been once – would love to go back because we didn’t have enough time for everything. The train show is spectacular, but beyond that, there’s so much more to see and do. Next time we’ll budget a whole day for it!
