Finding Meaning and More at the Social Good Summit 2012

social good summit

This weekend I’m attending the UN Foundation’s Social Good Summit, a three-day conference at the 92nd Street Y in NYC where big ideas meet new media to create innovative solutions. Held during UN Week, it will unite a dynamic community of global leaders to discuss a big idea: the power of innovative thinking and technology to solve our greatest challenges. The most innovative technologists, influential minds and passionate activists will come together with one shared goal: to unlock the potential of new media and technology to make the world a better place, and then to translate that potential into action.

I attended last year for the first time and found it inspirational. I heard from Eli Wiesel, Geena Davis, Lance Armstrong, Randi Zuckerberg and so many others about using their influence to change the world.   Since then I have joined forces with Save the Children, Room to GrowSt. Jude Children’s Research Hospital  and Room to Read to achieve greatness using social media.  I’ve extended my reach to influence important causes that I care for deeply.

The agenda is crazy wonderful.  From world leaders to movie stars to humanitarians to students to the average Joe (like me) seeking to make a difference, the Social Good Summit will bring people together in real life to utilize all forms for technology to change the world: Nick Kristof, America Ferrara, Dr. Raj Shah Former Prime Minister of Norway Dr. Gro Brundtland, Deepak Chopra, Forest Whitaker and so many others.

The summit will touch on how digital is redefining diplomacy, Africa, how millennials will change the world, preventing genocide in the digital age, embracing technology to foster peace, human trafficking, social gaming for good and so much more.

If you can’t go and your mouth is watering from this post, here’s how you can participate this weekend:

-          Organize or attend a Social Good Summit Meetup in your own hometown or anywhere around the world as part of The Global Conversation.

-          Watch the Summit on YouTube and interact in real-time with the Social Good Summit community via social media with the hashtag #SGSglobal.

And follow me here where I’ll be live blogging from the conference.
