44th Annual Broadway Purim Spiel

My culture vulture sister, Amy, called me the other day to invite me to the Annual Broadway Purim Spiel this Monday night at the Hudson Theatre in NYC. Dare I be crazy to refuse?! Of course not! It starts at 7pm with complimentary food and drinks. It’ll be fun to be tipsy while watching our favorite Broadway stars retell the Purim story. All proceeds from the NEFCA event will benefit Taglit-Birthright Israel, an organization dedicated to sending young Jews from across the world to Israel.

Jackie Hoffman, actress and comedian, and TV star Richard Kind from Curb Your Enthusiasm (pictured below) are hosting this year’s annual event. Talent includes stars from Spring Awakening,Christian Hoff from The Jersey Boys, Clarke Thorell from Hairspray, Adam Kantor from Rent, Alysha Umphress from American Idiot, Alex Brightman from Wicked, Gaelen Gilliand from 9 to 5, MODI, a comedian and many others.

Purim is one my favorite holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. My kids LOVE this holiday – they dress up, march in parades, dance, eat and we’ll have a wonderful festival at shul tomorrow.
