A Night at the Westchester Philharmonic

Tomomi Nishimoto

Last night my husband I had the pleasure of being invited as guests to an evening at the Westchester Philharmonic.   It was just luck to have chosen a night when Japanese conductor Tonoma Nishimoto and Ann Hobson Pilot, a well-known harpist, were joining forces and performing together on stage.  To say that it was a real treat is a bit of an understatement. Nishimoto led the Westchester Philharmonic though Liszt’s haunting symphonic poem, Les Preludes, Rimsky-Korsakov’s exultant Scheherezade and  Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer John … [Read more...]

Holiday Gift Suggestion: StinkyKids, Dolls with Purpose

DSC00582

Today my daughter and I attended a very special event at the Madame Alexander Doll Company in Harlem.  I was a HUGE doll fan when I was a child and knew I'd be in element.  I stopped by the Madame Alexander booth at Toy Fair earlier this year and knew about the quality of dolls that they produce.  I was told the event was to promote a new line called the StinkyKids, and I had a feeling that this would be an event for both my daughter and I. So, you can only imagine my delight when we walked into a mini showroom, with thousands of dolls from their … [Read more...]

Never Forget: Observing Kristallanacht with Ruth Bachner, Holocaust Survivor

Kristallanacht

This week on November 9th was the annual observance of Kristallanacht, "Night of the Broken Glass". It was a series of attacks against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and parts of Austria on 9–10 November 1938.  Jewish homes were ransacked, as were shops, towns and villages, as SA stormtroopers and civilians destroyed buildings with sledgehammers.  Around 1,668 synagogues were ransacked, and 267 set on fire. In Vienna alone 95 synagogues or houses of prayer were destroyed. Every year I lead a group of women from my synagogue to the Westchester … [Read more...]

Moms vs. Dads: Rule the House Twitter Party

Rule the House Twitter Party

When Holly Pavlika asked me to join her and the Mom-entum community to participate in a twitter party, I jumped at the chance.  First of all, I'd follow Holly anywhere.  She's a social media diva.  For another thing, it's called the #MomsRule vs #DadsRule Twitter Party to #RuletheHouse.  How could I resist this opportunity?  Lastly, I was honored to be asked to join to talk about a subject I care deeply about - the difference between the sexes. You may not know this about me, but I am a big feminist.  The funny thing is that I've been married 10 … [Read more...]

elizabeth glaser

Every now as a blogger, I get invited to an event I know is special.  Yesterday was one such event.  I was a guest of 77 Kids  by American Eagle to the 18th Annual Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation "Kids for Kids" Celebrity Carnival.  Like everyone else, I will never forget Elizabeth Glaser.  Her death had a profound impact on me..and the rest of the world, and it was a time in my life I'll never forget.  This is one event I would not dare miss.
